Though we both hail from "south of Boise," we’ve built our home and raised our family here in beautiful North Idaho.
Maura’s roots run deep in Italian tradition. Her grandparents emigrated from Italy to San Francisco, bringing with them the old-world culture that shaped her love for bread. A third-generation Italian American "City Girl," Maura has always felt a special connection to bread—especially the iconic San Francisco sourdough. Before starting our family, she worked as a corporate trainer. I often joke that the way I convinced her to move to North Idaho was by promising to bake her fresh bread daily. She eventually left her grandmother's home and embraced this new chapter with open arms (and a hearty appetite for homemade loaves).
John’s journey with baking bread began in the 1970s, turning home baking into his vocation. He passed his skills down to his sons and taught countless Boy Scouts in their troop. As word spread, parents began seeking his sourdough culture, baking tips, and private lessons. What started as a passion shared among friends and family soon grew through word of mouth into what is now Breaducation.
After more than 30 years as a marine engineer, John retired to focus on his true calling: sharing the joy of breadmaking. As the founder of Breaducation, he brings a methodical, precise approach to baking, pairing it with a deep love for the craft. Whether in-person or virtually, John’s goal is to demystify the art of breadmaking and empower others to create consistent, delicious results. Through his classes, he shares not just techniques and recipes, but the sense of companionship and tradition that baking fosters.
